MARIN COUNTY – A spirited, family-friendly Marin Pride Picnic will be held on Sunday August 5th from 1 PM until 5 PM at Piper Park on Doherty Drive in Larkspur.
Organized by Spectrum LGBT Center and the Marin AIDS Project, the picnic will be a relaxed, no-frills North Bay celebration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
“While Spectrum and Marin AIDS Project offer a multitude of events throughout the year, Pride is a special time when we gather together as a community,” says Paula Pilecki, Spectrum’s Executive Director.
There will be something for everyone in an alcohol-free, smoke-free environment. Among the festivities will be a special playground for children who attend with their families. A dog park is nearby for those who want to bring the entire family. Softball, volleyball “drag” races, and other picnic activities will entertain kids of all ages. There will be a surprise guests from the world of politics, theater, and gay culture. Grilled picnic treats will be available, and attendees are welcome to bring their own picnic baskets.
Andy Fyne of the Marin AIDS Project says, “Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
people from Marin sometimes express frustration about not having a gathering place
where we can connect with our neighbors. This picnic is a great way to mingle, meet, and network with other LGBT folk from Marin and the North Bay.”
“Let’s celebrate this time of gathering, loving and caring for our brothers and sisters in our community,” says Marcos Hardman of the Entre Hombres Program of the Marin AIDS Project. “I’m looking forward to a great party,” adds Brian Cross of Marin Life. “It’s the golden opportunity to bring together our diverse community in Marin and the wider Bay Area.”
